Made with Xara The Lake District is one of the most magnificant National Parks in England and as such not all of it is accessible in a wheelchair. However there is a web site that will give you somthing like 40 differnt walks accessible in a wheelchair or with a pushchair. Have a look at the Lake District National Parks web site and look for the link to “miles without stiles”. You can print these from the web or buy the complete works from a visitors centre. Please take care because the majority of Blue Badge parking spaces in car parks are now Pay and Display. You may not be able to reach the machines!   We have made up some of our own walks but I have quite a rugged wheelchair so they may not be suitable for all. 1. Park the car in Coniston and visit the small museum then carry on up the track to the Youth Centre a round trip of about 4/5 kms. 2. Park the car in Glenridding and take the track up towards Helvellyn. Again you can get up to the Youth Centre about 5 kms round trip. 3 The walk round Tarn Hows now has toilets. This walk is spectacular and circular about 1.5 kms. It is steep in places but a good surface with magnificant views of the Langdales. “Shopping” I know you are not keen but it still has to be done even on holiday. There is a Booths supermaket just behind the station in Windermere. Its very good but a little pricy. There is a Morrisons at the North end of Kendal and an Asda to the South. If you go to Kendal park in the Mulitstory but there are now no concessions. Shopmobility 01539 740933 is within the carpark This is in the centre of the town and is on two shopping levels. There is a small mall and an indoor market. Kendal Shopping area is not flat and level but has a number of little alleyways worth investigating. M&S is up one of them.
